Daniel Chavez Moran (b. 1952) is a businessman, based in Mexico, who formed Grupo Vidanta in 1974, a business dedicated to the development of luxury hotels and resorts. In 2010, CNN named him one of the top 100 most important businessmen in Mexico.[1]
Moran started his entrepreneurial career in 1974 after graduating from the University of Guadalajara, with a degree in civil engineering at the age of twenty-two. In 2005, he retired from his executive positions to focus on philanthropic endeavors.[2]. He the founded of Fundación Delia Moran A.C. in 2002, which focuses on helping children grow up in healthy environments.
He founded in 2005 the non-profit organization, Grupo Vidanta Foundation to increase awareness of the gap in political, economic, and social development in Latin America, and promote culture . The foundation was started as the Daniel Chavez Moran Foundation, then changed to Grupo Mayan Foundation later in 2005. In May 2008, the name changed to the Grupo Vidanta Foundation and in November 2010, the name was simplified to the Vidanta Foundation.[3]
